- 1960 – Bernard (Bernie) Bressler started a law firm that would later become Bressler, Amery & Ross. Initially, its clients generally were entrepreneurs and small public companies. The firm did Corporate work, supported by a Trusts and Estates practice, and a very small Litigation component. By 1983, the firm had grown to five attorneys in New York and one in New Jersey.
- 1983 – Bressler, Amery & Ross was formed as a partnership when Brian Amery joined with Bernie and Lawrence (Larry) Ross. Brian, Larry, and Bernie aspired to build a better law firm that was different than the status quo. A firm that would raise the bar. Their firm would integrate their personal and professional lives, joining business partnerships, friendships, and professional contacts into a successful business with trusted friends. Bressler, Amery & Ross was born.
Brian established a small Financial Institutions and Commercial Litigation practice focusing on the financial services industry. The firm had an office on Broad Street in the financial district of New York City, and another in Morristown, New Jersey.
- 1985 – Bressler added attorneys and began its Employment practice.
- 1986 – The Firm launched an Environmental practice early in the year. Several attorneys joined the New Jersey office later that year expanding Bressler’s Commercial Litigation capabilities.
- 1987 – Bressler developed a Products Liability Defense Litigation capability which included class action work and continued to grow its Environmental practice.
- 1988 – In February, Bressler formalized its Trusts and Estates practice.
- 1989 – The New Jersey office moved to its present Florham Park location and expanded its Insurance Law practice to include Insurance Regulatory work.
- 1993 – Bressler formed a Franchise Law group.
- 1994 – Bressler changed its structure to a professional corporation. The firm started a Professional Liability practice, added to its Commercial Litigation team and began representing clients in high-profile matrimonial matters. By the end of the year, Bressler had about 30 attorneys across two states.
- 1995 – Bressler moved its New York City office to its current location, 17 State Street.
- 1998 – The Firm expanded its Insurance Litigation practice within the Insurance Law group.
- 2001 – Bressler started a Healthcare Regulatory practice in New Jersey and New York.
- 2002 – Operating with nearly 60 attorneys, Bressler was retained as national counsel to a major financial institution and regional counsel to several others to manage the deluge of stock research report cases.
- 2004 – Bressler opened its first office in Florida in January bringing additional Commercial Litigation and Financial Institutions experience to the Firm.
- 2005 – Bressler added more attorneys in New York and developed the firm’s nationally recognized Securities Regulatory practice within the larger Financial Institutions practice group.
- 2007 – Bressler launched its Real Estate practice group. The Firm operated with nearly 75 attorneys across its three offices.
- 2008-2010 – Following the historic downturn in the financial markets, Bressler added several former in-house securities lawyers, with unique insight and incredible depth and breadth of experience, to its Financial Institutions practice.
- 2012 – Bressler added an Insurance Litigation practice in Florida and moved its office to downtown Fort Lauderdale.
- 2014 – Bressler opened its office in Birmingham, AL with about 20 attorneys. As a result, the Firm added depth to its Financial Institutions, Insurance Litigation, Commercial Litigation and Labor and Employment groups. The Firm also started an Immigration practice.
- 2015 – To support its growing Insurance and Financial Institutions practices, Bressler expanded its South Florida presence to Miami with an office in the downtown financial district.
- 2017 – Bressler opened its Washington, D.C. office and expanded its Commercial Transactions practice.
- 2018 – Bressler launched its Cannabis Law practice.
- 2019 – The firm formed a Cybersecurity, Privacy & Technology practice.
- 2020 – The Firm opened an office in Charlotte, North Carolina. It also expanded its services into Texas with new offices in Dallas and Houston. As a result, the Firm further added depth to its Financial Institutions, Commercial Litigation, and Labor and Employment groups.
- 2022 – The Firm opened an office in Austin, Texas.
