Bressler, Amery & Ross is proud to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s (MDA’s) 15th Annual Wings Over Wall Street Gala event on Thursday October 22, 2015 at The Lighthouse – Pier Sixty – Chelsea Piers in New York City.
MDA’s Wings Over Wall Street is one of the most successful Muscular Dystrophy Association benefits to fund research to find a cure for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. MDA’s Wings Over Wall Street has raised over $10.7 million for ALS Research over 14 years.
Many people know ALS as Lou Gehrig’s disease, named after the famous baseball player who got the illness and had to retire in 1939 because of it. ALS is a disease that affects the nerve cells that make muscles work in both the upper and lower parts of the body. This disease makes the nerve cells stop working and die. The nerves lose the ability to trigger specific muscles, which causes the muscles to become weak and leads to paralysis.
More than 12,000 people in the U.S. have a definite diagnosis of ALS, for a prevalence of 3.9 cases per 100,000 persons in the U.S. general population, according to a report on data from the National ALS Registry.
