Advisor awareness of client's capacity can protect from financial exploitation. In efforts to safeguard vulnerable people against financial exploitation, assessing their capacity to understand financial concepts is a key requirement, writes Angela Ghesquiere of the Brookdale Center for Healthy Aging at Hunter College. In a guest blog post for SIFMA, Ghesquiere explores the challenges and developments in making those assessments and concludes there is more work to be done, particularly in standardizing definitions.
