Florham Park, New Jersey (December 2022) - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our friend and one of our founding principals, Lawrence D. Ross, who passed on December 14, 2022. Most recently, Larry Ross served as a Principal Emeritus to the firm. He was 81.
“Larry was an icon and a visionary here at Bressler, Amery & Ross,” said Diana C. Manning, Firm Managing Principal. “He was a dear friend and colleague. He set a solid example for all of us and took the time to get to know every attorney and staff member in the firm.” She said, “He was passionate about the law and a great intellectual. He was a tireless advocate for his clients and helped pave the way for our firm’s growth and continued success.”
Bressler, Amery & Ross was formed in 1983 by Brian Amery, Bernard Bressler, and Larry Ross.
Brian Amery, Chief Financial Officer, Executive Committee Emeritus and Principal, said, “I have known Larry for more than 40 years. When we joined Bernie Bressler in 1983, the three of us aimed to build a better law firm – one that was different from the status quo – and we did just that.” He said, “I know firsthand how proud Larry was of the firm’s success and commitment to our people and our clients. He was incredibly proud that our five-attorney firm in the 80s has grown to more than 150 attorneys in 10 offices across the country. He will be sorely missed.”
Larry Ross was a business and commercial litigation attorney who represented many financial institutions, brokerage firms, investors, hedge funds and others. He was a talented writer and researcher who practiced law for more than 50 years.
Before joining Bressler, Larry practiced law at Dewey, Ballantine, Bushby, Palmer & Wood; served as an attorney and Acting Chief Counsel of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law in Jackson, Mississippi; was an Associate Professor at Hofstra University School of Law and worked at AT&T in its federal regulatory group. He received his J.D. from New York University School of Law, where he was a John Norton Pomeroy Scholar, an Arthur Garfield Hays Civil Liberties Fellow, and an Editor of the New York University Law Review. He received a Master of Laws degree from N.Y.U. and studied Comparative Law at the University of Paris Faculty of Law as a Ford Foundation Fellow. He received his bachelor’s degree in 1961 from Cornell University. Larry was admitted to practice law in New Jersey and New York.
