New Additions Bolster Firm’s Insurance Litigation Practice
Fort Lauderdale, FL – January 20, 2020 -- Bressler, Amery & Ross, P.C. announced today the addition of four new attorneys in Fort Lauderdale and Miami, further rounding out its growing Insurance Defense practice in Florida.
Donna Waters Romero has joined the firm as counsel and Lorraine Young has been hired as an associate in the firm’s Insurance practice group, both based in Ft. Lauderdale. Also joining the practice were Gabriela Plasencia and Alexandra Slater, both as associates based in Miami.
“We are excited for these four skilled attorneys to join our expanding Insurance team in Florida,” said Miami principal Hope Zelinger, who leads the firm’s Florida Insurance Group. “2019 was a year of strategic development across our entire firm, and our strong growth in the insurance market in Florida continues to be a priority for Bressler. These great attorney additions will be immensely valuable to our clients.”
Gabriela Plasencia
Ms. Plasencia’s practice focuses on insurance defense. Prior to joining Bressler, she was an associate at a Florida firm where she focused primarily on personal injury matters. Before that, she was an Assistant State Attorney for the Miami Dade State Attorney’s Office.
Ms. Plasencia received her J.D. in 2014 from the University of Miami School of Law, where she graduated cum laude. She received her B.A. in International Affairs and B.S. in Psychology from Florida State University in 2012. Ms. Plasencia is fluent in both English and Spanish.
Donna Waters Romero
Ms. Romero focuses her practice on insurance defense as well as first party property cases and handles all aspects of litigation. For over 30 years, she has dedicated her career to defending insured’s, self-insured’s, and insurer’s both in and out of the courtroom. Prior to joining Bressler, she worked as insurance defense attorney at a multi-practice law firm in Broward County, FL.
Ms. Romero earned her J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law in 1985, where she graduated cum laude, and her B.S. from Boston College in 1982, where she also graduated with honors.
Alexandra Slater
Ms. Slater also focuses her practice on insurance defense. Prior to joining Bressler, she was an associate at a New York firm where her primary focus was on medical malpractice litigation. After law school, Ms. Slater worked as a fellow for the New York Legal Assistance Group, where she assisted survivors of domestic violence with their family law matters.
She received her J.D. in 2012 from University of Miami School of Law, and her Bachelor of Arts in 2009 from University of Miami.
Lorraine L. Young
Ms. Young’s practice focuses on first party property. Before joining Bressler, she focused her practice on workers’ compensation insurance defense, developing defensive strategies and representing corporate clients in claims filed against employers and their insurance carriers and servicing agents. Prior to practicing in Florida, she worked as an in-house and field adjuster for insurance companies in Florida and New York.
Ms. Young received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Warner University in 2003 where she graduated cum laude. She earned a J.D. from Florida State University’s College of Law in 2012. During law school, she served as the National External Chief of Staff for the National Black Law Students Association, the Vice President for the FSU Black Law Students Association and the Diversity Chair for the Advocates for Immigrant and Refugee Rights.
