Introduction
Employers across the country struggle to deal with employees with mental health issues, especially when their behavior appears to threaten the safety of the workplace. A recent report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics found that "violence accounted for 1 out of every 6 fatal work injuries in 2013," including 397 homicides and 270 suicides. This issue was brought into stark focus on August 26, 2015, when two employees of a Roanoke, Virginia television station were murdered by a former co-worker with a history of erratic behavior.
